The Senior SQL Database Architect will be responsible for aligning with company business requirements and ensuring the effective implementation of database structures. The role involves designing, creating, and debugging SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, functions, and views. This position requires expertise in executing database structure and data enhancement scripts, optimizing system performance (e.g., through index tuning and disk optimization), and maintaining multiple database systems. Additionally, responsibilities include managing replication, backup processes, partitions, storage, and access controls, as well as overseeing user privileges. The Senior Database Architect will also assist in training Development team members in SQL best practices and database management.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Collaborate with design and development teams to create database designs that meet specified business and technical requirements
Perform database modeling and effectively communicate schema structures to development teams, ensuring clarity in how schemas support application development
Apply a thorough understanding of relational database concepts, implementing them using SQL DDL to support project goals
Gather requirements from software product managers and architects, and design relational database objects tailored to software objectives
Maintain and update databases used by the product development team across multiple versions of Jenzabar software
Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to test and verify database changes for each release cycle
Provide support in troubleshooting and resolving complex database issues within the customer base
Collaborate with the Data Services team on technical challenges related to data conversions
Stay informed about new releases of Microsoft SQL Server and evaluate their potential impacts on Jenzabar software
Design enterprise-wide database solutions aligned with application design goals
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Expertise in teaching and applying SQL DML, DDL, and DCL commands, along with skills in writing optimized code for triggers, views, functions, and stored procedures
Proven ability to design and code complex database procedures, triggers, and views
Experience teaching SQL database administration tasks and mentoring junior team members
Deep understanding of database delivery concepts and structures, particularly in multi-server environments (deployment across hundreds of customer systems)
Strong proficiency in SQL permissions creation and maintenance
Extensive experience in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server database systems
Advanced understanding of relational database concepts and the ability to gather and implement design requirements in collaboration with software product managers and architects
Skilled in designing relational database objects that support software design goals and meet enterprise-wide application requirements
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience managing databases in high-availability production environments is a plus
Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server technologies, including writing complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and views
Experience assisting development teams with complex queries and optimizing SQL performance to ensure system efficiency
Familiarity with data import/export processes, data conversions, and application of database patches
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan, coordinate, and track tasks to ensure timely project delivery
Experience with PowerBuilder, Microsoft Active Directory, and/or working in an academic or higher education environment is highly desirable
The pay range for this position is $91,000-$108,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, geographic location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus in addition to a full range of benefits.
