Principal Technical Lead - Workload Automation
Job Description
As the Principal Technical Lead for Workload Automation, you will provide expert technical leadership across Westpac’s Enterprise Batch (Workload Automation) Services, spanning design, build and operations. You will play a critical role in driving the Batch strategic roadmap, ensuring our workload automation platforms are resilient, scalable and aligned to business needs.
This is a hands‑on, senior technical role requiring deep expertise in Control‑M, along with strong experience in ESP Workload Automation and TWS/IWS, within a large, complex enterprise environment.
You will be responsible for the end‑to‑end technical leadership of Westpac’s batch scheduling platforms, providing both strategic direction and operational excellence. This includes BAU administration, major incident support, platform upgrades, automation, and engagement with stakeholders and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership in the design, build and implementation of batch solutions across Control‑M, ESP and TWS/IWS, aligned to Westpac’s Batch strategic roadmap
Deliver third‑level operational support, including major incident management, root cause analysis, and ownership of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning
Manage and maintain batch platforms through installations, upgrades, patching, agent management and certificate renewals, ensuring platform stability and reliability
Define and govern batch scheduling standards, working closely with batch designers and developers to deliver optimal batch flow solutions
Drive continuous improvement, stakeholder engagement and innovation, providing expert technical advice to business, technology partners and vendors, and assessing emerging workload automation technologies
What do I need?
10-14 years’ experience in a highly technical IT role focused on Batch / Workload Automation
Principal‑level expertise in Control‑M (essential)
Senior‑level experience with ESP Workload Automation and TWS/IWS
Extensive experience in Batch Operations and Batch Scheduling
Strong experience across mainframe and midrange hosting environments
Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives and drive strategic roadmaps
Expert problem‑solving, troubleshooting and consultative skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
A tertiary qualification in IT (highly desirable)
