Mainframe System Programmer
Responsibilities:
Monitor system software access, performance, and resource utilization.
Maintain and support z/OS 3.1 and JES2 software environments.
Collaborate with application teams to resolve production issues efficiently.
Provide 24/7/365 on-call support for software and system issues.
Analyze, design, program, and implement interfaces with system software.
Develop and enforce software usage and security authorization policies.
Create, maintain, and upgrade software systems for development and production.
Recommend and implement software policies, procedures, and standards.
Implement and test backup and recovery procedures, including business continuity.
Manage all mainframe-based systems, including multiple z/OS LPARs across datacenters.
Install new z/OS releases and apply maintenance updates from IBM and other vendors.
Troubleshoot and resolve system-related problems promptly.
Technical Environment & Key Tasks:
Provide z/OS 3.1 support on IBM z16 processors running:
CICS TS 6.1, DB2 V13, MQ 9.3, Connect Direct, CAMIM, etc.
Support other mainframe groups — Storage Management, Capacity Planning, Security, Automation, Networking (VTAM/TCPIP), CICS, DB2, and Change Control.
Manage USS (UNIX System Services) file systems, NFS, and mount points.
Maintain and configure PARMLIB libraries and perform hardware configuration via HCD for z16/zNext processors.
Perform zOSMF installations and automate ISV product deployments using SMP/E.
Manage ISV rollouts and vendor maintenance (Broadcom, BMC, etc.) using automation tools.
Collaborate with IBM and ISV vendors for problem determination and resolution.
Automate RSU maintenance and distribution via z/OSMF Software Management.
Utilize tools like SMP/E, IEBGENER, IEBCOPY, IDCAMS for configuration and updates.
Analyze SYSLOGs, traces, dumps, and job outputs to diagnose system and product abends.
Use ServiceNOW to manage incidents and requests across support teams.
Conduct resiliency exercises to migrate environments and LPARs across datacenters.
Monitor system health using RMF, SYSVIEW, and Tivoli Omegamon, setting up automated monitoring processes.
Requirements:
7-10+ years of experience managing mainframe software (z/OS and related).
Expertise in SMP/E installation and IBM/third-party software customization.
Strong hardware configuration (HCD) and device setup skills.
Experience with software exit programs, JCL, and debugging in batch/online environments.
Ability to handle multiple priorities independently.
Familiarity with Business Recovery and disaster recovery processes.
Occasional travel and flexible hours may be required
