We are seeking a Mainframe Developer to build and enhance core applications supporting mutual fund / financial services processing. This is a development-focused role on IBM z/OS, working in an Agile environment to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions for high-volume, business-critical systems. You will be hands-on with COBOL, CICS, VSAM, and DB2, owning delivery and support for business-critical services that power investor solutions workflows. This role is located in Westborough, MA.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL in batch and CICS online environments.

  • Engineer and support data access and persistence using DB2 and VSAM, ensuring performance, reliability, and integrity.

  • Develop/maintain JCL and integrate processing with Control-M

  • Build/support integrations using NDM (Connect: Direct) and sFTP, ensuring secure and reliable movement of files with internal/external partners

  • Provide production support (incident triage, root-cause analysis, remediation) for mission-critical processing.

  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to deliver enhancements across the mutual fund transfer agency lifecycle (orders, trading, settlement, reporting, regulatory).

  • Perform unit testing, code reviews, and support QA/UAT to ensure correct and stable releases. Drive release execution, implementation readiness, and post-release validation.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (refinement, sprint planning, daily standups, reviews/retros) and deliver sprint commitments

  • Contribute to engineering standards, documentation, and knowledge sharing across the team
     

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following: 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field. - Advanced certifications in mainframe technologies are preferred. EXPERIENCE: - Typically 5-9 years of experience. 

  • Strong hands-on experience with COBOL (Enterprise COBOL), DB2 for z/OS, CICS, VSAM, JCL, Control-M

  • Solid working knowledge of: TSO/ISPF, SDSF. Debugging and problem determination (abend analysis, job logs, CICS diagnostics)

  • Proven ability to work across batch + online workloads.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ownership mindset in high-availability production environments.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical partners.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)

  • NDM (Connect:Direct) and/or sFTP implementation experience (scheduling, monitoring, troubleshooting, partner onboarding)

  • GitLab experience (repo workflows, merge requests; CI/CD familiarity is a plus)

  • IDz (IBM Developer for z/OS) experience

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $68,000 and $145,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs. 
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
