Lead Data Analyst - Internal Audit
Job Description
Working within an Internal Audit department, obtains and analyzes large, diverse data sets to drive better business decisions and to identify business problems, in the context of financial, regulatory, reputational, and operational risk.
Mines data, performs quantitative analysis and creates clear and actionable narratives about the business.
Conducts research and special studies as requested.
Performs business intelligence analysis and provides meaningful reporting to operations and the Internal Audit leadership team.
Produces meaningful analytic reports on corporate business policies, processes, and performance with a focus on risk and control.
Offers recommendations for new data analytic techniques and methodologies.
Provide guidance to and mentors junior team members, including review of work product for quality and relevance, executing data analysis in audit projects, and achievement of business objectives.
Additional Responsibilities:
Lead the development and execution of data analytics strategies, including AI and Generative AI models, to enhance audit planning, risk assessment, and testing.
Design, implement, and maintain dashboards, automated reports, and visualization tools to provide actionable insights to audit teams and management.
Develop and deploy continuous monitoring and continuous auditing programs leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI/Gen AI tools.
Identify high-risk transactions, anomalies, and trends using AI-driven analytics and predictive modeling.
Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, including Generative AI, NLP models, process mining, and RPA, for audit efficiency and insight generation.
Identify opportunities to automate repetitive audit tasks using AI, Gen AI, and scripting.
Drive adoption of advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI-based insights to improve audit coverage and efficiency.
Standardize data extraction, cleansing and analysis processes, including AI model governance and reproducibility

Required Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related quantitative field
Experience:
3+ years in an analytics or business intelligence setting, including experience using one or more of the following analytic tools: SAS, SQL, R, Python, SPSS
Extensive experience in:
Extracting and manipulating large data sets in Oracle databases and mainframe sequential files for analysis, including integration of diverse data sources
Interpreting and understanding business strategies and goals to find emerging issues and root-causes for anomalies
Complex data analysis
Requirements gathering and documentation
Troubleshooting data issues; data reconciliation with consistent attention to detail
Designing and delivering reports, visualizations, or presentations that are understandable for both technical and non-technical audiences, and explain the importance and relevance of results to business requirements
Translating high level business goals into the tasks and technical specifications needed to perform meaningful data analysis
Developing positive relationships with IT and corporate business intelligence departments and personnel
Working with PC software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio)
Knowledge and Skills:
Extensive knowledge and skills:
Mathematical/statistical, reasoning, and logic skills; Understanding of statistical concepts (e.g. hypothesis testing, regression analysis)
Data design principles
Understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices
Solid understanding of data capture, data mapping, and data cleansing
Applying analytic skills to solve problems creatively; Ability to investigate and determine root causes of issues; Strong analytical problem solving, requirements facilitation, and collaboration skills; Consistently looks for better ways to achieve business results; recognizes problems as opportunities for process improvement
Self-motivated, flexible, organized, and able to perform with minimal supervision; Pro-actively make recommendations as issues and opportunities arise
Demonstrated ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, complex information to others in an understandable way
Preferred Qualifications:
Education:
Master’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related quantitative field
Experience:
5+ years of experience in an analytics or business intelligence setting, including experience using one or more of the following analytic tools: SAD, SQL, R, Python, SPSS
Working with Internal Audit or on an audit data analytics team
Dashboard design and development; building intuitive interfaces, infographics, and visualization to tell stories with data
Ability to complete advanced statistical analysis
Proactively monitoring daily processes, performance strategies,and results to ensure consistent coverage over business strategies and goals
Familiarity with agile development methodologies
Experience with SQL, Workday, Adaptive, and SQL Server
Process automation and AI-assisted workflow optimization
Knowledge and Skills:
Insurance industry background
Work Environment
This is a hybrid work arrangement (time spent in office and remote). Depending on the employee's role and leadership's assessment, some employees will come in to an ACG facility on a weekly basis, a monthly basis, or on an "as needed" basis for key meetings and collaborative activities. Most employees will be required to come into the office, at a minimum, for important departmental meetings or team building events.
